As we celebrated the Christmas season, Ms. Laurie's class was mindful of the reason for this very special time of year: The birth of Jesus. The greatest gift is the gift of love from God for all of us. Jesus is a gift for us and since it is his birthday, Ms. Laurie asked her students what gift they would give Jesus.

In Ms. Jessica’s class, we are learning what it means to “let your light shine.” We learned that Jesus calls us to let our light shine before others. If I’m being honest, I didn’t know November was National Diabetes Awareness Month until Texarkana Magazine asked me to write about our experience with the disease. To my family and me, Type 1 diabetes (T1D) is a part of our everyday life, so we don’t think about one particular month to be aware of it. Home for the Holidays (kind of)

My siblings like to say my parents really started spoiling me after they left for college. I’m still not convinced I didn’t get the worse end of the whole birth order deal. James, Sophia, and I (in that order) are spaced out perfectly. With a little less than two years between each of us, we’ve spent most of our collective lives in the same collective stage–with the same neighborhood friends, involved in the same sports leagues or teams, and a part of the same youth group.
