Tuscan Beauty

photos by Matt Cornelius
The rich Tuscan architecture of Kim and Dr. Randall Glass’ family home feels perfectly situated above rolling farmland and grazing cattle. One of the most endearing aspects of this architectural style is its ability to combine traditional, formal elements with warm and rustic qualities. “I have always been really drawn to the Tuscan style. I looked for plans for over a year. We’d even had an architect draw plans, but they just weren’t what we wanted,” explained Kim.

I' m about to share an unpopular opinion. It is so unpopular that it will probably be almost offensive to some, so don’t hate me, but… even though I know Thanksgiving should be a holiday for all, I honestly wish Whataburger was open on Thanksgiving Day. Yes, I mean this wholeheartedly. Don’t get me wrong, ham and turkey are GREAT, but would it really be so bad to throw a honey butter chicken biscuit on the side? And you can never go wrong with some fries!

TXK Book Club—Talking to Strangers

There seems to be a constant buzz in the air at the end of each year that gives us cause to reflect. When I looked back over 2020, I proudly realized I had become an avid reader. I went from (maybe) one-three books per year to 61 books in 2020. Maybe it was the quarantine, maybe it was AirPods, but I had undoubtedly covered more content than I had in years. I followed a guide I found on Pinterest for the year that suggested a new theme each month, which helped me step way out of my comfort zone. Full disclosure...

The Music Man

I took piano lessons from the ages of five-years-old to 16-years-old. I learned about all the classical composers. I was taught music theory, and I became skilled enough to sight read just about any piece of sheet music put in front of me. Impressive, right? Wrong. At the time, I absolutely loathed the piano and really wanted nothing to do with any of it. There were a few problems that hindered my musical education; all brought about by me. First, I was not much on practicing.

We’re All In This Together

Over the past year, it has become normal for “COVID talk” to creep its way into everyday conversations. Whether it’s with someone who is venting their vaccine opinion, or with another whose loved one is struggling on a vent in the Intensive Care Unit, it has become normal to accept that COVID-19 has crept in and decided to stay awhile.

Happiness Is Homemade

Walking up to the front door of Joe and Dr. Cheryl Saul-Sehy’s Mid-Century Modern house, you can see their taste is eclectic, inviting and curated. On the front stoop, you are greeted by a black woven fixture they call “The Giant Eyelash;” it is a fixture that was acquired by mistake, but one they both now love. This is just one example of the Saul-Sehys’ open approach to their remodel. They found a balance between asserting their own style while ultimately trusting the professionals around them. … Inside are rich, worn beams on either side of the front entry hall.

‘Tis the season for all things PUMPKIN! … From the notorious Starbucks’ Pumpkin Spice Lattes to the pumpkin spice cereal lurking in the grocery aisles, in October, inevitably, you just can’t escape the pumpkin spice and all its many various mutations. If you’re looking for me, I’ll be hiding on the couch in my apartment with a scary movie on and pretending pumpkin spice doesn’t exist.
