Let's Talk About Knees and Hips

Chase Lobrano, MD is a board-certified, fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon specializing in adult reconstruction-hip/knee. Dr. Lobrano always knew he wanted to enter medicine and started working in medical clinics and hospitals in his teens and throughout college. During medical school, orthopedics was a natural fit leading him to an orthopedic residency and his fellowship in adult reconstruction-hip/knee.

Lesli's 2022 Top Ten Reads

It’s almost impossible for me to believe 2022 is coming to a close. I saw a meme the other day that said something to the effect of “We are one month away from 2023, and we are all still processing 2019. It was four years ago.” Is it just me or did it feel like we went from being neck deep in a global pandemic to “it’s over?” Yeah, still processing.

More Than Meets the Ear

I am probably the only soul on earth who has ever thought that the muddy waters of Wright Patman Lake have healing powers. Let me explain. My dad has had profound hearing loss since the age of four. He has worn hearing aids since his childhood loss, but to enhance his communication skills, Daddy became an expert lip reader. As a little kid, I was always aware of his hearing loss but was not privy to his lip-reading talent.

Sharing Music

The Texarkana Arkansas High School (AHS) Razorback Band Program is hosting a district wide instrument drive from now until December 9. The school provides loaned instruments for all students throughout its 6-12 band program and over the past year, the number of students involved in the Razorback bands has grown to twice as many as in previous years.

World Famous Elvis Tribute Artist coming to the Perot Theatre

Travis Powell is a very special kind of entertainer. Although he is not a magician per se, he does perform a spellbinding act. It is a musical alchemy whereby he morphs from an unassuming suburban dad into a king. And not just any king. THE king. … As one of the nation’s foremost Elvis Tribute Artists (ETAs), Powell has been winning ETA contests since grade school. In fact, while most toddlers were barely warbling their ABCs or Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, by age four, Powell had already zoned in on what he liked to do–and that was to sing Elvis songs.

What Love Can Do

It was April 2002. A mother of three boys was working as the Mother’s Day Out director at her local church. At the end of the day, she found herself with one child who hadn’t been picked up: a three-month-old baby girl. She had been abandoned by her biological father, a disheveled man whom the woman had met for the first time that morning. She lovingly gathered up the abandoned child and took her home, holding the baby in her lap as she drove.

Memoirs Move Me

Oh my gosh! “Do I have a story for you!” Those are seven words I will never tire of hearing. I crave a good story like a basic college girl craves a pumpkin spice latte and an Instagram photo op. Call me, message me, write me a letter, or invite me to lunch. If you have got a good story to tell, I have got a listening ear. Yes, I still answer calls and still call people. If you are even my casual friend, you know I am not afraid to call you on the phone.

Stay Awake!

Happy October, my bookish ghouls and goblins! For this month's book review, I picked a thriller from a popular author who is new to me. It is just the book to usher us into the spooky season. What is not to love about a thriller? The pages practically turn themselves, and a clever author can keep you guessing until the end. There is nothing quite like the gasp at the end of the book when it unexpectedly comes together. We need to think of a word for that. "Ending gasp" seems too long. Help a sister out!
