A Sarine Thought… or Two

How Sweet ’N Low It Is! … To be honest, on a romantic desire scale of fairy-tale-prince-on-a-white-horse being the most romantic and hey-you-wanna-do-this-or-not being the least romantic, I fall somewhere around the thoughtful-words-and-practical-gifts-on-a-regular-basis part of the spectrum. I’m a little cat-like when it comes to romance. When I want it, I want it, but when I’m done, that is enough, and I need to go back to my own non-gooey-sentiment corner. … However, I see the intrinsic value of romance in dating and marriage relationships.

Don’t Call Me KarenI have a friend who enjoys engaging in debates on social media. Because she is my Facebook friend, those debates usually show up on my feed. Recently, a participant in one of them made an unnecessarily biting comment to her, and I couldn’t resist pointing out that it was inaccurate and unfair. … “You’re missing the point, Karen,” was the reply. … “He called me Karen,” I texted my friend. … “LOL. That’s what they call any woman they disagree with,” was her reply. … I wasn’t amused. I didn’t even know this guy.

Sharing The High Life

Holland, Brian, Meagan and Remington Harris submitted photo
No one understands the importance of family time quite like the Harris family. For Holland Harris and her late husband Brian, what started out as a place for their family to enjoy each other turned into a business that allows space for other families to spend time together. … In 2014, the Harris family longed for a quiet place to gather. A childhood friend of Brian’s informed them of some land in Glenwood, Arkansas, along the Caddo River that was for sale. Holland recalls the first time they visited the area and how hard it was for her to see what this area might develop into.

Publisher's Letter

In the Muhange District of Rwanda in 2016.
I always had the desire in my heart to go on a mission trip to Africa. I never really knew anyone personally who had done this, but it was still something I always wanted to do. When I was offered the opportunity in 2016, my heart was full of joy! … This trip, through IF:Gathering (IF) and Africa New Life Ministries, was to Rwanda. IF:Gathering was something I first experienced in February 2015 when an acquaintance invited me to an IF watch party at her local church.

2022 is the Year!

I am a slob. My room is like a maze. That’s why I decided to change for my new year’s resolution. My room will sparkle more than a light bulb. Once I’m done, my room will gleam like a butterfly. I’ll get Clorox wipes to wipe the room, then I will use Febreze spray to make it smell nice. … I am an A/B Honor Roll student. I want to make A Honor Roll in the future. I will have to concentrate more than usual. If I reach my goal, I will be beyond average. … My sister and I don’t really do anything around the house. I will dedicate myself to completing chores around the house.

2022 is the Year!

My resolution for 2022 is to get better at memorizing and reciting Bible verses. I chose this resolution because it might come in handy for conflicts in the future. For example, if someone is in a fight or lost, reciting a Bible verse might help save the day. A Bible verse could also cheer someone up or cheer yourself up. … One way I can work on my resolution is to set a goal that every other day I study at least five verses for ten minutes. If I do this process throughout the year I guarantee I will know more Bible verses than I did before.

What About The Paper Palace?

Baby, it’s cold outside! I guess that all depends on what day you are reading this, as we could be experiencing a wintry mix or, instead, be outside soaking up that January sun. Either way, are we the only family still blaring Christmas music? I’m hopeful the tunes streaming from our Alexa will summon mother nature to get cold and stay cold for a minute.

For the Love of Books

I love to read. I always have. I love to read so much that I actually remember learning how to read. Mrs. Jan Cure Clayton was my first-grade teacher, and she was also my Daddy’s first cousin. (In Atlanta, Texas, it is a real possibility that you are going to be related to one of your teachers along the way.) Anyway, I can remember the other first graders in my reading group and how Mrs. Jan would stand at the board teaching us phonics. It opened a whole new world for me.
