TISD Class of 2024 Top Ten Graduates

VALEDICTORIAN

Nashita Naureen Kalam has been named Valedictorian for the 2024 Texas High School graduating class. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. M. D. Kalam.

Nashita is an AP Scholar with Honors, an SAT Hall of Fame Honoree, a Superintendent’s PSAT Scholar, a Texas Scholar, a Distinguished Achievement Program graduate, and an H. Ross Perot STEM Academy graduate.    

She was selected to the National Honor Society, Quill & Scroll International Honor Society for High School Journalists, and Mu Alpha Theta Mathematics Honor Society, where she served as president.

Nashita received Academic Awards for highest average in AP Chemistry, AP Computer Science Principles, Newspaper Editor II DC, and Statistics and Business Decision Making DC.  She also received an Award of Excellence in Science.

Nashita is a member of the Student Council, Calculus Club, and Science Club, where she serves as president. She also served as Editor-In-Chief of the Tiger Times newspaper staff. She helps others by working as an after-school tutor.

Nashita has received scholarship offers from Baylor University, Texas A&M University-College Station, Austin College, and the University of Texas-Austin. She additionally received the Mu Alpha Theta Mathematics Honor Society scholarship.

Nashita accepted the University of Texas-Austin scholarship, where she will attend, majoring in biochemistry.


SALUTATORIAN

Jane Katherine Mitchell has been named Salutatorian of the 2024 Texas High School graduating class. She is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Trey Mitchell.

Jane Kate is an ACT Hall of Fame Honoree, an AP Scholar, a Superintendent’s PSAT Scholar, a Texas Scholar, a Distinguished Achievement Program graduate, and an H. Ross Perot STEM Academy graduate. 

She was selected to the National Honor Society and Mu Alpha Theta Mathematics Honor Society.

Jane Kate received Academic Awards for the highest average in AP US History, AP Biology II and AP U.S.Government. She also received the Award of Excellence in History.

Jane Kate was an active member of the Student Council, serving as Social Media Director.

As a three-year member of the Varsity Tennis Team, she has won numerous awards, including District Doubles Finalist, Champion, Regional Qualifier, and District Mixed Doubles Consolation Champion.

Jane Kate is an active member of First Baptist Church Texarkana and the church’s Fusion Youth Group.

Jane Kate received scholarship offers from Texas Christian University, the University of Tennessee, Baylor University, the University of Mississippi, and Auburn University. She also received scholarships from the TISD Volunteers in Public Schools (VIPS) and Christ Nations Church.

Jane Kate accepted the Texas Christian University scholarship, where she will attend, majoring in economics.  


Kristina Joan Colburn, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Colburn, graduated third.

She is an AP Scholar with Distinction, a Texas Scholar, a Distinguished Achievement Program graduate, and an H. Ross Perot STEM Academy graduate. 

Kristina was selected to the National Honor Society, Quill & Scroll International Honorary Society for High School Journalists, Mu Alpha Theta Mathematics Honor Society, and French National Honor Society.

She received an Academic Award for the highest average in Introduction to C# Programming Applications DC.                              

As a member of the photography staff, Kristina has won numerous awards, including first and second place in the Balfour National Contest, second place and honorable mention in the Jostens National Contest, and the best-in-show award at the TAJE Fall Fiesta.

She received scholarship offers from Louisiana State University-Baton Rouge, the University of North Texas, and Baylor University.

Kristina accepted the Louisiana State University scholarship, where she will attend, majoring in criminology. 


Anna Kate Bius, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Kirk Bius, graduated fourth.

She is a Superintendent’s PSAT Scholar, an AP Ambassador, a Texas Scholar, a Distinguished Achievement Program graduate, and an H. Ross Perot STEM Academy graduate. 

Anna Kate was selected to the National Honor Society and Mu Alpha Theta Mathematics Honor Society. 

She received academic awards for her highest average in physics, U.S. Government DC, and Yearbook III DC.

Anna Kate was a member of Key Club and actively participated in THS Leadership. She served as Senior Class Parliamentarian for Student Council.  Anna Kate was also a Varsity Cheer Escort, a member of the Texas High Varsity Golf Team, and a member of the Yearbook Staff, winning several yearbook awards, including first place for Club/Organization and second place for Student Life.

Anna Kate is a member of First Baptist Church Wake Village, where she is active in the church youth group.

Anna Kate was offered scholarships from Stephen F. Austin State University, Southern Arkansas University, Ouachita Baptist University, Dallas Baptist University, the University of Central Arkansas, and Oklahoma State University.

She also received the P.E.O. Women’s Award Scholarship, the Mu Alpha Theta Mathematics Honor Society Scholarship, and the Volunteers In Public Schools (VIPS) Scholarship.

Anna Kate accepted the Stephen F. Austin State University scholarship, where she will attend, majoring in finance.


Sophie Rochelle Keller, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jorg Keller, graduated fifth.

Sophie is an ACT Hall of Fame Honoree, a National Merit Commended Scholar, a Texas Scholar, a Distinguished Achievement Program graduate, and an H. Ross Perot STEM Academy graduate. She was selected to the National Honor Society, Quill & Scroll International Honorary Society for High School Journalists, Mu Alpha Theta Mathematics Honor Society, and French National Honor Society.

Sophie received the Academic Award for the highest average in AP French IV and Newspaper I DC.

She was a member of Texas High Rosebud Garden Club, Science Club and Student Council.  Sophie was also a member of the Tiger Times newspaper staff, where she served as Editor.

Sophie enjoys dancing at Judith McCarty School of Dance. She is an after-school tutor and member of WilliamsMemorial United Methodist Church Youth Group.

Sophie was offered scholarships from the University of Georgia, Southern Methodist University, and Texas Christian University. She received a scholarship from Volunteers In Public Schools (VIPS).

Sophie accepted the University of Georgia scholarship, where she will attend, majoring in computer science.    


Eli Scott Likins, son of Mr. and Mrs. Scott Likins, graduated sixth.

He is a Superintendent’s PSAT Scholar, an ACT Hall of Fame Honoree, a Texas Scholar, a Distinguished Achievement Program graduate, and an H. Ross Perot STEM Academy graduate. 

Eli was also selected to the National Honor Society.

He received the Academic Award for the highest average in Chemistry Pre-AP.

Eli is a member of Leadership, Student Council and was a member of the Texas High Varsity Boys Track and Field Team, where he was an area qualifier for three years. He was also a member of the Texas High Varsity Boys Swim and Dive Team winning second place in the state competition for the 200-yard freestyle and 100-yard backstroke. Eli is also a Junior National Finalist in the 200-yard freestyle and holds six school records in swim.

He is a member of First Baptist Texarkana Youth Group.

Eli was offered scholarships from Southern Methodist University, the University of Alabama, the University of Kentucky, Seton Hall University, and the University of Pittsburgh.

He accepted the Southern Methodist University scholarship, where he will attend, majoring in engineering.  


  

Kady Lynn Russell, daughter of Ms. Jennifer Stafford, graduated seventh.

She is a Superintendent’s PSAT Scholar, a Texas Scholar, a Distinguished Achievement Program graduate, and an H. Ross Perot STEM Academy graduate. 

Kady was selected to the National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta Mathematics Honor Society, and International Thespian Society.

Kady received Academic Awards for the highest average in Accounting I DC, AP Physics I, Band III DC, Fashion Design I, Statistical & Business Decision Making DC, Accounting II DC, Fashion Design II, and Trigonometry DC.

Kady was president of the Key Club, Crew Chief for Tiger Theatre Company’s production of Chicago, and a Costume Crew member for Tiger Theatre Company’s production of Murder on the Orient Express. She played flute and piccolo in the Texas High Marching Band, where she served as Junior Representative and Drum Major. 

Kady was offered scholarships from University of Texas-Austin, University of North Texas, Texas State University, Texas Woman’s University, University of Texas-Dallas, and Texas A&M University-Texarkana.

She also received scholarships from the Mu Alpha Theta Mathematics Honor Society and the Texas High School Band Booster Club.

Kady accepted the University of Texas-Austin scholarship, where she will attend, majoring in accounting.


Caroline McKenzie Cook, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David Cook, graduated eighth. 

She is an ACT Hall of Fame Honoree, a Superintendent’s PSAT scholar, a Texas Scholar, a Distinguished Achievement Program graduate, and an H. Ross Perot STEM Academy graduate.

Caroline was selected to the National Honor Society, Quill & Scroll International Honor Society for High School Journalists and Mu Alpha Theta Mathematics Honor Society.

Caroline was an active member in THS Leadership, serving as Senior Class Vice-President. She was a member of Key Club and served as Editor-in-Chief of the yearbook staff.

Caroline was a Varsity Cheer Escort and a Texas High Varsity Girls Tennis Team member, winning third place in the District in Mixed Doubles. Caroline is also a member of First Baptist Church Texarkana.

Caroline was offered scholarships from Auburn University, Baylor University, University of Tennessee-Knoxville, Texas Christian University, Oklahoma State University and Texarkana College. She received scholarships from Volunteers In Public Schools (VIPS) and the P.E.O. Women’s Award.

Caroline accepted the scholarship from Auburn University, where she will attend, majoring in business.


Kamryn Nicole Jean, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. James Jean, graduated ninth.

She is a Superintendent’s PSAT Scholar, a Texas Scholar, a Distinguished Achievement Program graduate, and an H. Ross Perot STEM Academy graduate. 

Kamryn was selected to the National Honor Society, Quill & Scroll International Honor Society for High School Journalists, Mu Alpha Theta Mathematics Honor Society and French National Honor Society.

She received Academic Awards for the highest average in AP English IV, French III Honors and received the Heart of a Tiger award for AP US Government for her perseverance and dedication to the subject.

Kamryn is a member of the ASPIRE Club, Latin Club, Calculus Club, and the Texas High School Political Society.                 

She served as President of the Texas High Rosebud Garden Club and Opinion Editor for the Tiger Times newspaper staff.  She also competed on the UIL Social Studies team.

Kamryn was a four-year member of the Texas HighSteppers, serving as Senior Captain and Junior Lieutenant.  She was a three-year award recipient of Highest HighStepper GPA.

Kamryn was offered scholarships from University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, Texas State University, University ofOklahoma and the University of Alabama.

She will attend the University of Texas at Austin, majoring in health and society.


Liliana Sanchez, daughter of Ms. Brittany Carder and Mr. David Sanchez, graduated tenth.

She is a Superintendent’s PSAT Scholar, a Texas Scholar, a Distinguished Achievement Program graduate and an H. Ross Perot STEM Academy graduate.   She was also recognized as a Hispanic Scholar by the College Board.

Liliana was selected to the National Honor Society and Mu Alpha Theta Mathematics Honor Society.

Liliana received Academic Awards for the highest average in College Algebra DC and Practicum in A/V Production II DC. 

Liliana is a member of the History Club and UIL Social Studies Team. She served as President of TigerVision, where she received certification as an A/V Production Basic Certified Technician.

Liliana was offered a scholarship from the University of Texas at Austin, where she will attend, majoring in communications.
