On Cloud Nine
The Twice as Fine Texarkana Wine Festival isn't just a wine lover's dream—it's also making a difference by saving lives in the Texarkana community. Hosted by the Alzheimer's Alliance Tri-State Area, the 9th Annual Twice as Fine Wine Festival is scheduled for Saturday, May 4th, 2024. This charitable event aims to support various initiatives such as the Our Place Day Respite Center and Project Lifesaver, both dedicated to assisting individuals with Alzheimer's or another form of dementia within the community.
Since its creation in 2013, Our Place has been serving the Texarkana community with the help of trusted and trained volunteers. Respite care refers to a brief interval of rest or relief that allows caregivers some time to unwind while their loved one with Alzheimer's or another form of dementia continues to receive care from trained professionals. It is essential for caregivers to receive periods of respite so that they can continue to provide the best care possible for their loved ones. Each day of provided respite care can add 23 days to a caregiver's life expectancy. The Alzheimer's Alliance offers respite relief through the Our Place Day Respite Center to reduce the burden on caregivers in our community.

The Alzheimer's Alliance's introduction of the Project Lifesaver Initiative in Bowie County is making a lifesaving impact in the community. It is estimated that over 1,583 people in Bowie County have Alzheimer's disease or related dementia. Of those, approximately 70% to 80% will develop the tendency to wander. Because wandering is such a common symptom of Alzheimer's disease, anyone diagnosed is at risk of wandering at any time. It is best to prevent the problem before it occurs since statistics show that wandering persons' chances of survival drop to 50% if they are not located within 24 hours. Project Lifesaver combines "tried and true" radio technology with rescue teams from the local community, including law enforcement and public safety officials. Together, they create an effective lifesaving system that has proven itself, time and again, to be reliable, responsive, and practical. Through the Twice as Fine Texarkana Wine Festival and generous sponsors, the Alzheimer's Alliance Tri-State is able to provide these lifesaving wristbands at no cost to the public.

The Twice as Fine Texarkana Wine Festival targets an audience of wine and food enthusiasts. Wineries from across the State of Texas, numerous merchants, and local businesses will allow visitors to taste and purchase wines and gourmet treats at their best, all from one location. The Twice as Fine Texarkana Wine Festival is so excited to welcome back some festival favorites along with new wineries and merchants from across the state! With a focus on giving back to the community, the festival not only celebrates the art of winemaking but also raises awareness and funds for essential programs that provide care and support for those affected by Alzheimer's and dementia. By participating in this event, attendees can contribute to making a positive impact on the lives of individuals and families in need.
We extend our gratitude to our presenting sponsor, Ledwell Office, and other sponsors for their ongoing support and generosity. Because of their commitment and dedication, we can continue our crucial work and make a positive impact in the community. These sponsorships allow Our Place Day Respite to operate on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 9 AM to 3 PM. We are truly thankful for their partnership and the difference they are helping us to make in the lives of individuals, caregivers, and families impacted by this terrible disease.
