Good Evening TXK

Six things to do in June!

For me, the beginning of summer is also the beginning of something incredibly special and dear to my heart—half price milkshakes at Sonic!

My friends and I used to spend hot summer nights playing volleyball at Bringle Lake courts, then we would head down to Richmond Road Sonic to cool off with a chocolate shake. Needless to say, I always gain around 15 pounds during the summer, but I really don’t care. My mouth is watering now, just fixating on the cold, creamy, chocolaty goodness that will bring so much summer joy for only $2 a pop.

I truly thrive during the summer months! Summer is my time to shine, and I’m excited to see everyone else shining, too at these fun Texarkana events!

Ride or Die Art Show—Fay J Winery, June 4

Art and wine? Sign me up! This is a fun, simple way to kick off the June festivities, and I’m so excited to see all the beautiful art from Joseph Gage’s very own Ride or Die Art Collective!

This art show and reception will take place Friday, June 4, at Fay J Winery—2325 Texas Boulevard, from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm. This will be a beautiful, fun, chill event, so grab some friends and come out to support the artist! That’s what it is all about. Don’t miss it!

First Baptist Church Golf Scramble—Texarkana Golf Ranch, June 5

For all you golfers out there, First Baptist Church Texarkana is hosting a golf scramble tournament on Saturday, June 5, at Texarkana Golf Ranch! This event will benefit From His Heart Ministries, the media outreach of Pastor Jeff Schreve “Speaking the truth in love to a lost and hurting world.”

This event will be $80 per player, which includes breakfast, lunch, golf and prizes.  Contact Bill Vahle at 903-280-5968 or Toni at 903-838-8329 to sign up, and for more information, visit the official First Baptist Church Golf Scramble event page on Facebook.

14th Annual Runnin’ WJ Benefit Barrel Race—Four States Fair Grounds, June 11-13

Registration is now open for the 14th Annual Runnin’ WJ Ranch Barrel Race, and I know there are some folks who want to enter! Riding for a great cause makes it even more inviting! This event is an annual divisional race benefitting Runnin’ WJ Therapeutic Riding Center, supporting children as young as four years old with physical, cognitive and/or emotional disabilities.

This barrel race will take place at Four States Fairgrounds. You won’t want to miss this! For more information on how and where to register, times and other important details on the official Runnin’ WJ Barrel Race, visit their website runninwjranch.org or their official Facebook event page!

Daddy Daughter Enchanted Garden Dance—Crossties, June 11

I know this event is going to be a special time for dads and their daughters. On Friday, June 11 at 6 pm, dads will have the wonderful opportunity to bring their daughters to Crossties, at 324 East Broad Street, for a special daddy-daughter dance. Ticket sales benefit Mission Texarkana, who is hosting this 3rd annual event. ALL ages are welcome!

This event is specifically designed to create a spectacular night, making memories that will last a lifetime! I know I’d be taking my daughter if I was a dad! (Thank God I’m not though!)

Visit eventbrite.com for information.

Fouke Monster Festival—June 19

Don’t judge me, I must have been living under a rock, I’ll admit, but this is the first time I’m hearing of the Fouke Monster Festival. Apparently, it’s the 3rd annual event. I’m late to what sounds like a fun party! I am still LIVING for it though!

On Saturday, June 19, from 9 am to 6 pm at the Fouke, Arkansas Community Center, attendees of this festival will be treated to Bigfoot presentations, movie actors, tours, track casting and so much more! But hurry, reserved seating prices range from $30-$45 plus fees!

The legend of the Fouke Monster has been one that’s haunted me since I was a child and kids would tell me stories to scare me. It worked… but this is an event I think I’ll be able to work up the courage for. Haha!

Farmers’ Markets—Every Tuesday, Thursday, & Saturday

I don’t know about y’all but I’m so ready for more farm fresh food this year! I can just taste the watermelon now! Yum!

You can score locally grown, fresh produce at Gateway Farmers’ Market— open Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday from 7 am–12 pm and the Texarkana Farmers’ Market—Saturdays only from 7 am–12 pm.

There are vendors with much more than produce, as well. So, go see for yourselves! It’s always so much fun!
