Trena and Cade Vanderhoeven Wedding

Q. How did you meet?

A. We met in college through a mutual friend who was also a part of our wedding party!

Q. What drew you to each other?

A. It was instant attraction between the two of us, but we also believe it was the mutual respect for our talent as musicians. Cade sings and plays bass guitar and I play the trumpet and sing as well.

Q. Tell us about the proposal.

A. We both committed to moving across the country together. However, I moved first because of my job. Cade came a month later, after he was able to transfer from his job. During that time, I was so scared that he was going to tell me he no longer wanted to move. It was a big risk for both of us. However, he moved and the first weekend we spent camping and finding random beaches along highway one. We set up a tent right off a cliff. I picked it because I just knew the sunset would be beautiful. Cade said he had to grab something from the car. I watched the sunset on the Pacific Ocean and as soon as I turned around to see if he was on his way back, Cade was right behind me getting on one knee. It was breathtaking.

Q. Tell us about your wedding party. Who was in it and why?

A. We had a huge wedding party. It consisted of all our siblings and our close friends with whom we often take group vacations. Everyone in our wedding party is someone we have stayed in close communication with for years and are people we consider part of our growth together and our love story.

Q. What was your favorite part of your wedding day?

A. Our favorite part was the first dance because it was an upbeat song instead of the typical slow song, but it was also a song that we sing along to nearly every day. We love it so much and always have fun when it is on, so it felt natural for a first dance.

Q. Were there any unique challenges when planning your wedding?

A. Planning the wedding from across the country was definetly the most unique challenge. Neither one of us had actually seen the venue in person until a couple of weeks before the wedding.

Q. Were there any unique features of your wedding that made it different from traditional weddings?

A. I think our entire wedding was far from traditional. We had a very diverse wedding party filled with people of all ethnicities and walks of life. Some may even say us being interracial is still not very traditional.

Q. Did you go on a honeymoon? Where?

A. We went to O’ahu, Hawaii for our honeymoon. It was one of the prettiest locations we have ever been. We definitely did not want to leave.

Q. What makes your love story special?

A. Our love story is genuine. We connected instantly when we met. We were friends for several years, playing in bands and hanging out with each other through mutual friends before ever confessing our attraction to each other. Each day feels as fresh as the first time we met. Sure we have rough patches, but everywhere we go people always comment on how much they can see our love for eachother, and I believe it’s because it is deep and genuine.”

Q. What about your life together are you most excited about?

We are excited to travel together and just experience as much life, adventure, and great cuisines around the world as possible. Our passion is traveling, so it feels solidified now that we share a name.
