Fernanda and Andrew Martin Wedding

Q. How did you meet?

A. “Andrew and I met in the CrossFit room at the gym we both went to. I had seen him a couple of times before, but we never spoke. This particular day, I noticed he was leaving, but then he came back into the training room, walked up to me and told me he misplaced his phone and asked if I had seen it by chance. I offered to call it, to which he replied, “It’s on silent, but yes, please call it.” He sent me a text three days later. He didn’t get my name the day he lost his phone, so his text read ‘Hey pretty girl from the gym.’”

Q. What drew you to each other?

A. “From the very beginning, it felt like we had known each other for a lifetime. Andrew and I became best friends. We were really comfortable and would spend hours talking about a million different subjects, but also enjoyed the silence and simply being in each other’s company. His sense of humor is a lot like mine, and he always genuinely laughed at my jokes. He still tells me every day he thinks I’m hilarious. I think he’s pretty funny, too.”

Q. How did he propose?

A. “My entire family was in on it, and it was the most beautiful moment I’ve ever experienced. Every trip we took to Texarkana, we would stop by Wright Patman, sit out on the rocks and watch the sunset before heading back home. The day he proposed, it didn’t seem weird that he asked if I wanted to stop by and watch the sunset. So, we went. When we got there, we sat, and he started telling me how he felt about me, how much he loved me and how much I had changed his life. I honestly thought it was just one of our “moments.” But then, he asked me to get up and walk to a certain spot where he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. I always wondered if I would cry the day the person I love proposed to me... I bawled. After I said yes, and we hugged, I look to my right and both of my brothers were there, cameras in hand, capturing the entire moment. I’ll never forget it. It was perfect.”

Q. Who was in your wedding party?

A. “Andrew and I decided against a wedding party. Of course, all of our best friends and siblings were there to share our special day. And we celebrated with all of them prior to our wedding as well. But, when we pictured ourselves standing at the altar, exchanging vows in front of everyone we love, we wanted it to be a moment that included only the two of us.”

Q. What was your favorite part of your wedding day?

A. “Everything! Every single moment of getting to marry Andrew and every single thing about that day. From the jitters waking up at my parent’s house, to seeing Andrew for the first time while my dad walked me down the aisle, to hugging and dancing with our friends at the reception, and hearing the beautiful speeches our family prepared. Our wedding was so full of love, and it was a perfect day thanks to every single person who went above and beyond to give us the wedding of our dreams.”

Q. Were there any unique features of your wedding that made it different from traditional weddings?

A. “One of the best features of our wedding, and the one thing our friends still rave about, is the surprise Mariachi band that my mom and dad had for us at the reception. It was really important for us to keep some of the essence of my Mexican culture on our special day, and the Mariachi band definitely did that. My dad grabbed the mic and sang along, and it’s now (in the) top five of my favorite memories ever. We also decided to have a taco truck later in the night after people had a few drinks and danced for a while, and it was also a huge hit; the tacos were outstanding.”

Q. What makes your love story special?

A. “I think everyone who is in love believes their love story is special and one that deserves to be told and celebrated, and I believe that to be true. Love, in its purest form, is the most incredible thing I have ever gotten to experience. When I look at Andrew and picture our life together, it brings me peace and happiness. But also, thinking of spending the rest of my days next to him doesn’t seem like enough time. Our story is one of perseverance, happiness, friendship and God bringing us back to each other despite all odds. I believe Andrew and I were made for one another, and I hope that every single person gets to feel a love like this in their lifetime.”

Q. What about your life together are you most excited about?

A. “I’m looking forward to building the life we dream of together, every single day. I can’t wait to be parents together, which will be happening in the next couple of weeks when we welcome our daughter into the world. I’m excited to grow and learn next to Andrew, and enjoy every single second of this brief moment we get to spend on Earth. We are lucky to have found a love like this.”
