Erin and Josh Cole Wedding
Q. How did you meet?
A. We met in high school when Josh and his family moved to Texarkana from Ohio.
Q. What drew you to each other?
A. Josh says he was drawn to my southern charm, and I was drawn in by his calm demeanor and that he thought all of my weird jokes were hilarious.
Q. Tell us about the proposal.
A. Josh was doing yard work on a Monday night, and he started a fire outside. We love to sit around fires together, so he asked me to come outside and see it. I was reading a book in my sweatpants, so I almost said no, but I put on my muck boots and went outside. While we were watching the fire, he got down on one knee and asked me if we could sit around fires together for the rest of our lives.
Q. Tell us about your wedding party. Who was in it and why?
A. My sister Jayce Keil was my maid of honor. I also had my lifelong best friends, Morgan Nash Ward and Lauren Hadaway Hunt, as bridesmaids and my sister-in-law, Chelsea Cole. I wanted to have a smaller wedding party with people by my side who have been with me through everything.
Josh had his dad, Scott Cole, as his best man, and friends from high school and college as his groomsmen. That included Michael Wicks, Riley Fleming, Trumann Nugent and Logan Byrd.
Q. What was your favorite part of your wedding?
A. Our favorite part was getting to dance all night with family and friends and the firework show at midnight.
Q. Were there any unique challenges when planning your wedding?
A. Having to plan a New Year’s Eve wedding was a little tricky since it is such a popular holiday, but we did our best to get as much booked and planned as far in advance as possible. We also had to get a few different vendors during the planning process, but since we got engaged in May 2020, we had time to adjust and hire excellent vendors who made everything amazing.
Q. Were there any unique features of your wedding that made it different from traditional weddings?
A. We tried to do away with most of the traditional wedding aspects for our day. Our ceremony was ten minutes max, we didn’t cut the cake and we did not do a garter or bouquet toss. Since New Year’s Eve fell on a Friday in 2021, we had to have all the events a day earlier than they normally would have been, which allowed us more time to spend with our guests.
Q. Did you go on a honeymoon? Where?
A. We went to Antigua. It was beautiful, and we had the best time relaxing for a week.
Q. What makes your love story special?
A. We met when we were in high school and started dating our junior year. We’ve overcome so much already, including long-distance, college, law school, illnesses, surgeries and so much more. I think what makes our love story so special is that our main goal has always been to support each other in what we love and never rush the other person into the next step of life.
Q. What about your life together are you most excited about?
A. Just getting to spend every day as best friends and with our dogs, being weird together and going on adventures for the rest of our lives.
