2022 National Day of Prayer

The National Day of Prayer, observed annually on the first Thursday of May, was officially set aside in 1952 by President Harry Truman as a special time to seek God for our families, our nation and others around the world. This day is celebrated by Americans of many religions. Christians, including Protestants and Catholics, as well as Sikhs, Muslims, Hindus, and Jews, all assemble in front of courthouses and places of worship to invite the intervention of God into our daily lives.

During the Korean War, Reverend Billy Graham declared, “What a thrilling, glorious thing it would be to see the leaders of our country today kneeling before Almighty God in prayer. What a thrill would sweep this country. What renewed hope and courage would grip the Americans at this hour of peril.” Soon after, the National Day of Prayer was officially established.

This year, there are multiple opportunities for Texarkana believers us to gather for this special time of prayer.

God is sovereign and nothing comes as a surprise to Him. Whether we face a fluctuating economy, threats from abroad, unrest at home, or other troubling circumstances, our Heavenly Father is not caught unaware. Through prayer, we can tap into His wisdom, strength, protection, and peace. He stands ready to respond to our needs when we humbly ask for divine intervention in the affairs of men. 2 Chronicles 7:14 it says, “If my people, who are called by My name, will humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” Praying for our country is not only our duty to our great nation but also our honor to seek God on her behalf. If we as citizens won’t pray for America, who will? Not only will we be changed as we humbly and diligently seek Him, we will also see God transform America through the repentant and faithful prayers of His children!

On Thursday Morning, May 5, First Baptist Church of Texarkana will host a time of prayer. The event will be held outside by the globe, from 6:45am to 7:30am. The prayer participants will pray for our nation, community, and families. There will be breakfast and coffee available to all in attendance. We hope to see you there!

Church on the Rock Texarkana

“This Thursday, May 5, is the National Day of Prayer. All over the country, millions of believers will join together to pray for our nation, our families, our schools and our leaders. We invite everyone to come join us and pray at our Downtown Post Office from 12-1:00 pm. There will be live worship, and prayer will be led by many local pastors. Several of our City Officials will be in attendance as well. If ever our nation needed Christians to pray, it is now. Our nation and the world are facing many problems and the only solutions will come from God’s intervention, God’s guidance and God’s hand of blessing. 2 Chronicles 7:14 tells us that “if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” Join us this Thursday from 12-1:00 at the Downtown Post Office and let’s seek God, and ask Him to heal our Land.
